Rabat – Morocco has granted citizenship to mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Ismail Naurdiev and his brother Islam. The exceptional decision was formalized through two royal decrees, published in the country’s official gazette, according to converging reports.

Ismail Naurdiev, born on August 18, 1996, has achieved international recognition in the world of mixed martial arts. The Naurdiev brothers have often expressed deep respect and admiration for Morocco, which has now officially welcomed them as citizens.

The royal decrees waived eligibility restrictions under Article 17 of Morocco’s nationality law, which typically applies a five-year period during which naturalized individuals cannot hold public office or elected positions that require Moroccan citizenship.

However, exceptions are made for foreigners who provide exceptional services to Morocco, such as those with outstanding achievements or contributions.

The decision to grant citizenship to the Nordiev brothers is seen as part of Morocco’s efforts to celebrate global talent and highlight its growing support for sports, particularly MMA.

The Russia-born brothers have often expressed gratitude to King Mohammed VI and Morocco for supporting their athletic journey. In recent competitions, the Naurdiev brothers have publicly honored Morocco by dedicating their victories to the country.

Ismail began his career fighting in European promotions, particularly excelling in Absolute Championship Akhmat (ACA), where he built an impressive record before signing with the UFC in 2019.

He made a striking debut at UFC Fight Night, defeating Michel Prazeres by unanimous decision. Despite showing promise, his UFC tenure concluded with a 2-2 record, leading him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Naurdiev later joined Elite MMA Championship and Brave Combat Federation, where he continued to compete in both the Super Welterweight and Middleweight divisions, achieving.

Ismail frequently shows his strong connection to Morocco by putting on the Moroccan flag during his fights.
