Rabat – In alignment with the national cause momentum driven by King Mohammed VI, the full map of Morocco — incorporating the Western Sahara — was published today on the official website of France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (Quai d’Orsay).
This development follows a letter from French President Emmanuel Macron to King Mohammed VI, asserting that “the present and future of Western Sahara are within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.”
It also comes amidst Macron’s three-day State visit to Morocco, which began on Monday. The week has included high-level discussions with the King in Rabat and saw Morocco and France sign 22 new agreements across various sectors, including transport, energy, and cultural cooperation.
In a strongly worded address to the Moroccan Parliament today, Macron reaffirmed France’s firm stance on the Western Sahara dispute, underlining that the region’s present and future lie within Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.
His remarks, which noted Morocco’s 2007 Autonomy Plan as “the only basis for a just, lasting, and negotiated political solution,” were met with enthusiastic applause from diplomats and lawmakers, signaling the importance of France’s new position on the international stage.
Macron pledged France’s ongoing support in international forums, adding that French companies will contribute to the expansion of Morocco’s southern provinces through investments, sustainable projects, and solidarity initiatives to benefit local communities.
This decision operationalizes France’s newly active stance on the Western Sahara issue, aligning with positive international developments regarding Morocco’s southern provinces.
