Rabat – French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Rabat on Monday for a State visit at the invitation of King Mohammed VI. This trip illustrates the enduring ties between Morocco and France, characterized by mutual interests and a strong commitment to collaboration.
For today’s agenda, Macron met with key Moroccan officials, including Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, President of the Chamber of Councillors Mohamed Ould Errachid, and President of the Chamber of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami. Each meeting involved discussions towards strengthening bilateral relations.
In today’s joint session of both chambers of the Moroccan Parliament, where Macron delivered his speech, Ould Errachid expressed in his address to the parliament optimism about the future of Moroccan-French relations.
“The community of destiny between Morocco and France implies looking together towards the future with serenity and confidence,” he said, noting the strong historical ties between the two countries. Ould Errachid pointed out the sincerity of both leaders is crucial for strengthening their partnership. “The will of our heads of state to further consolidate our relationship is evident,” he remarked.
He pledged to boost the parliamentary dimension of their relationship, advocating for parliamentary diplomacy to support mutual understanding and cooperation on shared interests. “We will prioritize dialogue and relevant parliamentary initiatives to strengthen our cooperation on issues of common interest,” he affirmed.
Ould Errachid also addressed the sensitive issue of Western Sahara, stating, “As representatives of the nation, we want to express our gratitude to France for its historic position on this matter.”
He pointed out that France’s stance as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council is vital for supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity, describing it as “a decisive turning point in the positive evolution toward a definitive solution, in line with Morocco’s autonomy initiative.”
During his speech, Macron reaffirmed France’s strong position on Western Sahara, asserting that the future of the region aligns with Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces. Macron also referred to Morocco’s 2007 autonomy plan as “the only basis for achieving a just, lasting, and negotiated political solution.”
In his address to parliament, Talbi Alami recalled the deep-rooted historical ties between Morocco and France. “This state visit is an embodiment of the historic ties that unite our two countries,” he remarked. He further noted the significance of this visit in consolidating the bonds between the two nations.
With Macron’s visit, both nations are poised to build on their historical connections and face future challenges together, showcasing a partnership that transcends borders and enriches the lives of their peoples.
