Agadir – In a blow to the strenuous efforts made by the controversial head of the Istiqla Party (IP) to put more pressure on the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) and accelerate the holding of early legislative elections, a member of the IP is said to have refused to quit the coalition government.

According to the Moroccan TV channel 2M, Hamid Chabat, the secretary general of the (IP) held a meeting on Tuesday morning with the party’s members in order to finalize the party’s decision to withdraw from the PJD-led coalition government, which was announced on Monday.

Hamid Chabat told the Moroccan channel that all the IP ministers attended the meeting except Mohammed El oufa, the minister of education who did not respond despite the fact that he had been informed about the “crucial nature of the meeting.”

Mohammed El oufa had several times expressed his indifference towards his party’s decision to withdraw from the ruling coalition and showed no willingness to resign his post.

Some media sources reported that the controversial minister will attend the weekly hearing at the second chamber of the parliament and will continue doing his job as usual.

The IP party announced on Monday the implementation of its decision to withdraw from the governmental coalition led by the islamist Party of Justice and Development (PJD) and decided to join the ranks of the opposition.

The defection of Mohammed El Ouafa can be considered as a blow to the efforts made by the Secretary General of the IP who repeatedly emphasized the unity of his party and the willingness of the all its components to withdraw from the PJD-led government.
