Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman renewed Saudi Arabia’s position that no recognition of Israel will happen without an independent Palestinian state.

“The kingdom will not stop its tireless work towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and we affirm that the kingdom will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without that,” MBS said.

The Saudi crown prince made his remarks in an annual speech to the advisory Shura Council, in which he also strongly condemned the Israeli crimes against Palestinians, and stressed his country’s commitment to efforts seeking to avert further escalation and violence in the region.

Saudi Arabia has consistently maintained this position in recent years, with converging reports indicating that Riyadh has explicitly linked its potential embrace of the U.S.-brokered and Israel-normalizing Abraham Accords to significant Israeli concessions on the Palestinian issue.

While acknowledging Saudi Arabia’s readiness  to normalize ties with Israel in an interview in September last year, MBS insisted on the need to resolve the question of Palestine.

“Everyday we get closer,” the Saudi Crown Prince said, stressing that  the Palestinian cause is a “very important” dossier” to his country.

“We need to solve that part … we got to see where we go. We hope that will reach a place, that it will ease the life of Palestinians, and get Israel as a player in the Middle East,” he insisted.
