Rabat, January 26, 2013 (MAP)

Morocco, Spain, France and Portugal adopted, on Friday in Rabat, a joint statement to provide coordinated, efficient responses to face threats to stability and security in the region, two weeks after the beginning of the military intervention in Mali to stop extremist groups from reaching the south.

The Rabat statement identifies counter-terrorism, and the fight against drug trafficking and illegal immigration flows as top priority security fields.

“We agree on the need to deepen strategic, technical and operational cooperation on the different forms of criminality,” said the document issued at the end of the meeting by Interior ministers of the four countries, held upon the invitation of Moroccan interior minister Mohand Laenser.
