Rabat – Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita met today with Ahmadou Moustapha Ndiaye, the newly appointed World Bank Regional Director for the Maghreb and Malta.

Ndiaye presented his credentials during the meeting, officially marking the start of his tenure. Ndiaye’s appointment comes at a time when the World Bank is increasing its focus on the economic and social development of the Maghreb region.

As Regional Director, he will oversee and strengthen cooperation projects between the Bank and the countries in the region, with a particular emphasis on economic reforms, social inclusion, and public policy support.

Bourita praised the long-standing partnership between Morocco and the World Bank, noting that joint projects have contributed to sustainable development, infrastructure improvements, and addressing economic challenges.

He expressed Morocco’s desire to continue this collaboration and explore new avenues to maximize the impact of programs on the kingdom’s socioeconomic development.

Ndiaye reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s development efforts, particularly in areas such as education, innovation, digital transformation, and combating inequality.

He also emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation among the Maghreb countries to promote inclusive and sustainable growth for the region as a whole.

This meeting not only highlights the strategic importance of Morocco’s relationship with the World Bank but also sets the stage for a new era of collaboration focused on addressing the contemporary challenges faced by the Maghreb.
