Rabat – Approximately 1.9 million travelers and 447,000 vehicles passed through Moroccan ports between June 5 and August 15 as part of the “Marhaba 2024” operation, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics on Friday.
The ministry reported that the transit operation is proceeding “under favorable conditions.” For inbound traffic to Morocco, Moroccan ports have welcomed around 1.33 million passengers and 317,000 vehicles. Meanwhile, about 570,000 passengers and 130,000 vehicles have traveled to Europe from Moroccan ports.
The peak days for inbound traffic were recorded on August 3 and 4, with over 80,000 passengers and 20,000 vehicles crossing into Morocco during this period, reflecting a “significant influx” on these two days, added the statement.
The ministry said it has mobilized all necessary technical and logistical resources to ensure the smooth execution of the operation, including sufficient transport capacity to meet the needs of Moroccans residing abroad.
The statement added that the ministry has also diversified maritime routes and emphasized the quality of services offered on board ships, while closely monitoring the prices of crossings.
Regarding the return phase, the ministry is urging all travelers planning to return to their countries of residence to book their travel tickets in advance while confirming both the date and time of their journey for all maritime routes, including “Tanger Med – Algeciras” and “Tanger Ville – Tarifa.”
In cases where travelers need to modify the date or time on their tickets, the ministry advises contacting the respective maritime company remotely before arriving at the port to avoid potential congestion.
“Marhaba” is an annual operation organized by the Moroccan government to facilitate the smooth transit of Moroccan expatriates returning to Morocco for the summer holidays. The operation typically runs from June to September and is designed to manage the large influx of travelers, particularly those returning from Europe.
