Rabat – The latest FIFA world rankings, released today, show that the Moroccan women’s national football team remains in 59th position globally.
This ranking places them 3rd in Africa, behind Nigeria (36th) and South Africa (50th).
The Atlas Lionesses have maintained their ranking since the previous update on June 14.
Their highest global position was 58th, achieved twice: first in August 2023 and again in March of this year.
In contrast, the United States has surged back to the top of the FIFA women’s rankings following their recent triumph at the Paris 2024 Olympics women’s football tournament.
Meanwhile, France has experienced a significant drop, falling from 2nd to 10th place after their quarter-final elimination by Brazil.

The Morocco women’s national football team, managed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, first competed in international football in 1998 during the third Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
They participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, making history by advancing to the knock-out stages before being eliminated by France in the round of 16.
Earlier this year, Jorge Vilda, coach of the Moroccan national women’s team, assured the media that the team is committed to continuous improvement despite recent setbacks, as the Atlas Lionesses suffered a defeat against Zambia in a Paris Olympic Games qualifier.
Vilda spoke emphatically of the dedication and efforts of both players and coaching staff, saying: “We’ll prepare ourselves, continue working very hard daily because I’m also extremely proud of the work the coaching staff has done.”
The next FIFA world rankings are expected to be released on December 20.
