Rabat – As Morocco faces an increasingly concerning measles epidemic, Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas announced today that the Ministry of Health had examined the immunization status of nearly 8.88 million children under the age of 18.
He announced the news on Thursday in a press conference after the government council.
This move comes to complement the operations currently engaging the authorities to stall the spread of the disease as well as its eradication once and for all.
He further said that the government, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, has initiated a comprehensive multifaceted awareness campaign to stop measles transmission.
There are plans to extend the vaccination in areas where it was not administered properly, Baitas said.

He indicated that emergency medications are being made available to ensure immediate care for those affected by the disease.
Minister of Health Amine Tahraoui also addressed the situation in comments today, presenting a holistic report on measles spread and the response measures undertaken in this respect.
The Ministry of Health has put on national campaigns to sensitize the masses about the importance of vaccination to tackle the vaccination uptake, he said.
The ministry is notably partnering with other health entities to ensure that the vaccination process is long-lasting, Tahraoui further noted, stressing that the goal is to shield the country from any future outbreak.
According to the minister, these are indicators of the Moroccan government’s strong commitment to public health protection and the rapid resolution of the measles outbreak at hand.
