Rabat – Morocco has ranked as the third African country in terms of quality of life as of the beginning of 2025, according to a recent Business Insider report.

The ranking shows the country coming after South Africa (152.4) and Tunisia (117.3), which came in first and second positions respectively.

Morocco achieved an overall quality of life score of 110.8, which is a decrease compared to the 2024 mid-year score of 111.9.

Although the North African country has fallen from second place compared to the previous report, the current assessment indicates that “Morocco has seen significant improvement” over the years.

Taking into account various factors like housing affordability, purchasing power, pollution levels, safety, healthcare quality, cost of living, commute times, and climate conditions, the report assesses the well-being of citizens.

A higher score on this index reflects a better quality of life, according to the magazine’s report. It noted that global assessments have fluctuated in recent years, due to economic changes, climate change, political stability, and public health challenges.

In the current ranking, Kenya and Egypt came after Morocco with respective scores of 101.7 and 85.3.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has left the list of the top 5 African countries. The West African giant’s overall score has dramatically fallen from 49.5 in 2023 to 21.5. According to the report, this notable drop has been mainly due to “worsening living conditions.”

On a global level, “quality of life assessments have fluctuated in recent years, influenced by economic shifts, climate change, political stability, and public health challenges,” the magazine noted.

Accordingly, the top-ranking countries have managed to dodge these challenges and maintain a good level of life for their citizens.

This is not the first time that Morocco has ranked among the top African countries in terms of the quality of life.

In 2023, a US News report indicated that Morocco topped the continent’s list and ranked 52nd globally, with a score of 12.7 out of 100, performing well in affordability and safety.
