Rabat – Morocco’s Tourism Office (ONMT) organized this month a tour campaign in four Scandinavian countries to promote Agadir as a key destination for tourists.

A statement from ONMT said today that the office organized the tour campaign from May 27-30, mobilizing tour operators and travel agents from various markets.

Fifteen Moroccan tour operators were a part of the campaign, exchanging views with their Nordic counterparts on tourism cooperation.

The office said Agadir is at the core of its action, noting that the tour covered several Scandinavian capitals, including Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, and Stockholm.

The campaign dubbed the Light Tour “aims to bring the region’s travel influencers into contact with travel agents and hoteliers in the Agadir region,” ONMT said, noting that 150 Scandinavian operators have been contacted.

The major goal is to make Agadir a “preferred destination for Scandinavian travelers, including in winter.”

ONMT also seeks to increase the number of arrivals to restore the region to its “former glory and charm.”

ONMT also recalled its decision to double the capacity of flights from Scandinavia starting in the winter of 2024, adding that seven new routes will be launched with Norwegian Airlines from northern European markets, including to Agadir and three to Marrakech.

In addition, Scandinavian Airlines will also double its flights from Copenhagen to Agadir.

“Morocco has thus 21 weekly direct flights to the 4 Scandinavian capitals of Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki and Oslo, as well as to Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, Riga, the capital of Latvia, and Gothenburg, the second Swedish city situated on the west coast” ONMT added.

Emphasizing the importance of the Scandinavian market, ONMT said that this travel market is over “20 million strong, within a total population of 26 million inhabitants.”

Morocco’s primary objective is to attract 17 million tourists by 2026 and 26 million arrivals in 2030.

This year, Morocco aims to attract 15.5 million arrivals, compared to 14.5 recorded in 2023.
