Rabat- Digitalization and innovative solutions have become essential for enhancing the performance of healthcare systems, Khalid Aït Taleb, Morocco’s Minister of Health and Social Protection, said today at the World Future Health Africa Forum as part of the GITEX Africa in Marrakech.

“In a world where several challenges, including those in health, persist, the use of digitalization and innovative solutions has become imperative to improve the performance of healthcare systems and make them more equitable and sustainable,” the minister explained.

The statement was delivered on his behalf by the Director of Planning and Financial Resources at the Ministry of Health during the inauguration of the World Future Health Africa forum.

Ait Taleb pointed out that “Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a tool intended to support our healthcare professionals, not to replace them,”noting that while AI provides recommendations based on data, “the final decision always remains under the responsibility of the healthcare professional.”

The advancement of digitalization in healthcare serves as a means to further improve patient-centered proximity medicine, he explained, suggesting that healthcare systems can and should become more patient-centered, responsive, and accessible through the use of digital tools and solutions.

The minister mentioned telemedicine, which he said provides access to healthcare by overcoming geographical and temporal barriers, ensuring better diagnosis and treatment.

“Artificial Intelligence today offers relevant analysis tools to enhance prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare management,” he elaborated. As he continued to hail the revolutionary potential of AI, Ait Taleb spoke in particular of how AI can help optimize hospital resources, reduce patient waiting times, and improve the efficiency of care.

According to him, Morocco has taken a thoughtful approach to integrating digitalization and artificial intelligence into its healthcare system. In preferring such an approach, the goal is to ensure that AI enhances the quality and accessibility of care while preserving the vital role of healthcare professionals.

As part of this effort, Morocco is working to establish a comprehensive and intelligent national health information system that relies on electronic patient records. This will streamline healthcare services and improve patient care.

In recent years, the country has actively worked towards fostering public-private partnerships in the healthcare sector to ensure that inclusive access to everyone has access to high-quality healthcare.

GITEX Africa encourages the continent to embrace the dynamic of technological transformation and digital progress, offering a promising path towards economic and social development.
