Rabat – A document circulating on social media claiming that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has stripped Morocco of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and awarded it to Senegal is false.

The viral document alleges that CAS accepted the Senegalese Football Federation’s appeal, canceled the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision, and officially declared Senegal the 2025 AFCON champions. However, official CAS information does not support these claims.

One of the biggest signs that the document is fake is the case number. The circulating document uses the reference CAS 2026/A/10857, while CAS officially confirmed that Senegal’s appeal was registered under CAS 2026/A/12295. Such a difference would not appear in a genuine final ruling.

The document also incorrectly identifies the case as a dispute only between the Senegalese Football Federation and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. In reality, CAS confirmed that the appeal was filed against both CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, since the challenged decision was issued by CAF’s Appeals Committee.

Another major issue is the claimed ruling date of June 10, 2026. CAS has published no official statement or final decision on that date regarding the AFCON final dispute. A review of the court’s official announcements shows no evidence that a final verdict has been delivered.

The latest official CAS communication on the case was released on March 25, 2026. In that statement, the court only confirmed that Senegal’s appeal had been registered and that an arbitration panel had been appointed. CAS also said it was too early to set a hearing date or announce when a final decision would be issued.

The court added that Senegal had requested an extension to submit its appeal brief until it received the full written reasons behind CAF’s ruling. CAS also reminded that arbitration proceedings remain confidential while they are ongoing.

CAF’s decision still stands

At this stage, CAF’s Appeals Committee decision remains the latest official ruling in the case.

On March 17, 2026, CAF ruled that Senegal had withdrawn from the AFCON final after its players left the pitch. Under Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, CAF awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory, canceled the previous disciplinary decision, and upheld Morocco’s protest.

Senegal later appealed that ruling before CAS, but no final judgment has been announced.

Several signs point to a fake document

The authenticity of the viral document is further questioned because it is missing from the official CAS database. It also excludes CAF from the list of respondents and appears only as a low-quality image containing signatures, stamps, and an Arabic translation without any official source.

CAS normally publishes non-confidential decisions through its official database or recent decisions section. No such ruling has been published regarding the AFCON final.

As a result, there is currently no official evidence that CAS has overturned Morocco’s AFCON 2025 title or declared Senegal as champions. Until CAS issues a formal decision, CAF’s ruling remains the only valid and enforceable decision, making the viral document misleading and most likely fabricated.
