Rabat – Moroccan national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has announced the launch of a direct route between Casablanca and the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
The air route will be operational starting from June 23, according to the Moroccan news agency, which quoted the air carrier as saying today.
Morocco’s ambassador to Nigeria, Moha Ouali Tagma, expressed satisfaction with the announced air route, describing the news as a “milestone in the relations between Morocco and Nigeria.”
He said this opening will give new momentum to the rapidly evolving ties between the two countries, recalling the ongoing Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project as well as OCP fertilizer-related initiatives with the West African country.
Nigeria, like Cameroon, will be the second African country to be connected to two cities by Royal Air Maroc; Lagos with a daily flight and soon Abuja with three weekly flights, he said.
“Morocco and Nigeria are steadfastly working, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, to build a strategic partnership,” the Moroccan diplomat concluded.
MAP also quoted a RAM spokesperson as emphasizing that the new route is not “just a flight path but an important milestone in the journey of Royal Air Maroc, reinforcing its commitment to Africa for better connectivity.”
The RAM official added that travelers seeking business opportunities and cultural exchanges of experiences will benefit from Royal Air Maroc’s reliable connections to Morocco and beyond, noted the report.
“With our extensive network and commitment to excellence, we are confident that the Abuja-Casablanca route will significantly contribute to enhancing economic growth, promoting cultural exchanges, and strengthening ties between our two countries,” he said.
In addition, the RAM representative recalled the company’s development plan to transition from a medium-sized airline with 50 aircraft to a global airline reinforcing its position in Africa through an extensive network and a large fleet of 200 aircraft.
