Rabat – A report from BIM, a fitch solution company, said that Morocco’s tourism sector will experience a 15.3% year-on-year increase  in terms of arrivals this year.

The fitching company issued its forecast for Morocco’s tourism sector last week.

Specifically, the report authors expect the North African country to attract 16.8 million tourists this year, up from the 14.5 million recorded last year. The number exceeds the original figure of arrivals Morocco expected to attract this year.

Morocco’s goal is to attract 15.5 million visitors by the end of 2024.

“The strong growth will be driven by increasing arrivals from key source markets such as France, Spain and Belgium,” the report said.

Out of these three markets, the report forecasts the largest surge will come from France, 4.5 million arrivals.

Spain is expected to provide  2.4 million arrivals, followed by Belgium with 931,290 arrivals .

“Italy and Germany will be Morocco’s fourth and fifth largest arrivals source markets with a projected 921,400 arrivals… and 732,760 arrivals, respectively,” BIM added..

The report also cited the assets that make Morocco an attractive destination for tourists, specifically in Europe, including warm climate and low-cost direct flights between the two destinations.

However, the report authors note that they  “believe that Morocco’s tourism offering appeals to tourists beyond the European region.”

In the first four months of 2024, Morocco attracted 4.6 million tourists.

The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism said last week that the North African country welcomed a record 1.3 million tourists in April.

The ministry attributed this positive development to the significant arrivals of Moroccans residing abroad in addition to foreign tourists.

“These exceptional results pave the way for promising prospects for the 2024 summer season and for the entire year,” Minister of Tourism Fatima Zahra Ammor said today, noting that the ministry’s roadmap programs continue to bear fruit.

The North African country aims to attract 17 million tourists by 2026 and 26 million arrivals in 2030.
