Rabat – German automotive company Benteler is eying the opening of  a factory in Kenitra, near Rabat, converging media reports have indicated.

The factory, if established, would be seeking to supply parts to the new Stellantis Vigo project in Spain, Atlantico reported earlier this week.

Citing the company’s management, the report detailed that the German automotive giant’s main aim is to transfer part of  its activities to its future Moroccan plant. The company has two sites in Spain, Vigo and Mos.

In recent decades, Morocco has leveraged its automotive sector as a significant contributor to the country’s economy.

The investments in the sector attracts renowned international manufacturers from across the world.

According to recent data from Morocco’s Exchange Office, the country generated $13.7 billion from car exports in 2023. Morocco produced a total of 535,825 vehicles during that period, the Office documented.

The North African kingdom’s strategic location and favorable business climate continues to attract global car manufacturers, the Office said, noting that Morocco’s proximity to Europe and its location within Africa makes it a gateway to both destinations.

In addition to aeronautics, Morocco is also looking to boost its aerospace industry, which has in recent years attracted several giants of the sector.

Earlier this week, Swedish group Trellebrok signed an agreement with Morocco to establish its industrial unit at Midparc near Casablanca.

The project, which will require an investment of €11 million, will be established on an area of 7,800 square meters of land, including 5,100 square meters of buildings.

The plant seeks to offer between 150 and 200 direct jobs, the Moroccan Ministry of Industry said on Monday.
