Rabat – In a strategic push to strengthen its North Africa operations, XPO Logistics has unveiled a major expansion in Morocco, adding new shipping routes, deploying a fleet of 60 advanced container trailers, and targeting a 10% reduction in CO2 emissions.
The move comes as the company surpasses 30,000 cross-border shipments between Europe and Morocco, tripling its revenue in the country since 2018.
The expansion focuses on high-growth corridors, including a new dedicated connection between Morocco’s Port of Tangier and Spain’s Motril terminal, which is expected to handle 35-40% of XPO’s Europe-Morocco traffic by 2025.
With Morocco fast becoming a global manufacturing and trade hub, XPO’s investment seeks to provide faster, greener logistics solutions for industries like automotive, retail, and construction.
Smarter fleet, cleaner operations
At the heart of the expansion is an important investment in 60 next-generation container trailers, equipped with GPS tracking and designed to maximize load efficiency.
The new fleet increases transport capacity by 50%, eliminating unnecessary trips and reducing fuel consumption.
“The expansion of our operations in Morocco – with more than 30,000 shipments as of 2024 and new investments – reflects our commitment to increasingly efficient, innovative and sustainable cross-border logistics,” said Massimo Marsili, XPO’s Managing Director for Southern Europe and Morocco.
“Morocco is a strategic market experiencing rapid expansion, and we want to lead that development with solutions that are agile, scalable, efficient and focused on the practical needs of our customers.”
The company’s Gibraltar Strait operations already run 400 monthly duo trailer crossings, and the Motril route is projected to cut emissions by 10% which meets Morocco’s sustainability goals.
XPO’s Morocco push reflects a broader strategy to dominate high-growth trade lanes with tech-driven, eco-efficient solutions. As the North Africa-Europe corridor heats up, the company plans further investments in automation and real-time logistics tracking.
