Marrakech – In preparation for the upcoming 2024 edition of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) on May 3-4, Moroccan racer Mehdi Bennani held a press conference on Wednesday in collaboration with the Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial & Spa.
The pre-tournament press conference took place in the “Menara” room of the Sofitel, noted a press release shared with Morocco World News.
Notably, the hotel management indicated in its statement that the press conference sought to solemnly mark Mehdi Bennani’s participation in the WTCR, which will take place at the “Moulay El Hassan” circuit in Marrakech.
The statement described the press conference as underscoring Sofitel Marrakech’s commitment to actively engage in events that further elevate the city’s standing on the international stage.
The hotel is known for its commitment to promoting cultural and sporting endeavors. As a result, its initiative in hosting Mehdi Bennani’s press conference not only adds to the excitement surrounding the upcoming WTCR event, but also underscores Marrakech’s appeal as a vibrant hub for global gatherings.
Following the conference, a cocktail dinner was served at the Art Lounge of Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial & Spa.
Mehdi Bennani will compete in this world championship behind the wheel of a Cupra car, the organizers have announced.

The Moroccan champion has previously secured victory in the World Touring Car Championship in 2016, as well as the European championship in the “TCR” competition in 2020.
“This is my comeback in an international competition, which is hard. I’m planning on life being easy on me on Friday. I won a championship in 2016 and a European championship in 2020,” Mehdi Bennani recalled at today’s press conference.
“I achieved some great results during my career, but the ones I like the most are the drivers who were born during my journey, who have wished to become professional drivers,” he added.
Born in 1983 into a family of athletes, Mehdi Bennani’s passion for motorsports is considered a family inheritance.
His mother, Samira Bennani, is a former Moroccan and Arab champion in car racing, while his late father, Abdelilah Bennani, was a former motocross champion.
Talking to Morocco World News on the sidelines of the press conference, Bennani urged his young Moroccan admirers dreaming of future success in car racing to work hard and show determination in the pursuit of their dreams. “Dare to dream,” he stressed.
