Many are questioning how such a tragedy could take place in the middle of a major cultural festival attended by thousands of people.

Several social media users claimed that the festival has previously seen incidents of abuse, drug use, and activities linked to superstition.

Rabat – The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal of Errachidia released a statement today concerning a viral story of the tragic death of a child in the Boumnia region in Errachidia, with reports alleging he was subject to sexual and physical abuse.

The heartbreaking story sparked concerns and frustration among Moroccans, who called for the judiciary to investigate the case and determine the circumstances surrounding the minor’s death.

Notably, the campaign came after viral photos showed a child hanged from a rope that was suspended by a wooden structure in June.

Upon the discovery of the child’s body, the public prosecutor responded to the investigation demand, opening up a case to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime.

The prosecutor said several individuals, including the victim’s parents, were questioned.

According to the preliminary findings, autopsy samples showed the child died by asphyxiation from hanging.

“No signs of either sexual or physical violence were found on the body,” the prosecutor said, despite reports alleging otherwise. The prosecutor further reassured that the judicial investigation is still ongoing.

“The appropriate legal actions will be determined upon [investigation] its conclusion,” the statement concluded.

Videos resurfacing online also showed the child’s mother in distress, crying out for her child.
