Agadir – Morocco’s OCP Group has secured a new export order of 60,000 tons of triple superphosphate (TSP) fertilizer to Bangladesh.
The agreement was approved by Bangladesh’s Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) during a meeting held on June 10, chaired by the country’s Minister of Finance.
“The government on Wednesday approved two proposals for the import of 60,000 metric tons of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertilizer from Morocco involving Tk 522.94 crore,” according to the United News of Bangladesh (UNB).
The committee cleared two separate proposals, each covering 30,000 metric tons (±10%) of TSP fertilizer supplied by Morocco-based OCP Nutricrops, which was selected as the recommended supplier in both cases.
The order is structured in two equal shipments of 30,000 tons each. The first tranche was priced at $688 per ton, while the second was set at $726.33 per ton, bringing the total estimated value of the operation to around $42.4-42.5 million.
“The first proposal approved the import of 30,000 metric tons (±10 per cent) of TSP fertilizer under the agreement signed between Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and OCP NUTRICROPS of Morocco,” UNB further explained.
“The committee approved the import of another 30,000 metric tons (±10 per cent) of TSP fertilizer,” the news agency added.
The CCGP said the imports are aimed at ensuring “an uninterrupted supply of fertilizer for the country’s agricultural sector and meeting domestic demand during the upcoming cultivation seasons.”
The supply will be delivered by OCP Nutricrops under an existing framework agreement with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), which regularly coordinates fertilizer imports to meet the country’s agricultural demand.
The purchase seeks to secure stable fertilizer supplies ahead of upcoming agricultural seasons, as Bangladesh continues to rely on imports to support its farming sector and ensure food security.
The deal reinforces OCP’s position as a key global supplier of phosphate-based fertilizers, particularly in Southeast Asian markets.
