Rabat – Moroccan activists are pledging legal actions against Israeli officials amid the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) devastating war against defenseless civilians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since October 7.

Abdelilah Ben Abdeslam, the President of the Moroccan Coalition of Human Rights Organizations, announced the news in an interview with the Anadolu Agency, where he spoke to the coalition’s activism for the Palestinian cause as well as support for all international efforts seeking to arrest Israeli war criminals in Gaza.

The activist recalled the importance of international movements, aiming to send messages to the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) prosecutor to urge him to activate the established procedures and hold all Israeli officials involved in the relentless slaughter  against Palestinians accountable.

In the interview, Ben Abdeslam also urged the international court not to deal with the Palestinian issue “irresponsibility with bias towards itself.”

“There are supportive international movements for the Palestinian cause whether through demonstrations, solidarity, and various forms of expression, or through messages directed to the Prosecutor of the ICC demanding the prosecution of officials.”

Ben Abdeslam’s appeal comes amid frustration and concerns among Moroccans across the country about the humanitarian crisis and exacerbated situation due to the IOF war on civilians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Many Moroccan cities, including but not limited to Rabat, Casablanca, Fez, and Tetouan, have been swamped with massive protests, condemning the situation and calling on the government to cut normalization ties with Israel.

Several polls also highlighted Moroccans’ ongoing concerns about the situation.

A poll in January from the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies featured responses from 8,000 people from the period from December 12 and January 5, about the situation in Gaza.

The responses were gathered in several countries, including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia among others.

According to the report, 75% of Moroccan respondents viewed the Hamas attack on October 7 in Israel as a legitimate resistance operation.

In Morocco, 90% of respondents indicate experiencing a high level of psychological stress characterized as  “very much”, while only 7% reported feeling psychological stress to a “somewhat” extent.
