AS Monaco face a growing dilemma over the future of Moroccan international Elyes Ben Seghir, with mounting interest from European giants and internal squad reshuffles clouding the midfielder’s status at the club.
According to Nice-Matin, Monaco have set an initial price tag of €50 million for the 20-year-old, who impressed during the club’s pre-season preparations. The talented playmaker has attracted interest from Barcelona, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Napoli.
Ben Seghir is contracted with Monaco until the summer of 2027 and played 46 matches last season, scoring nine goals and providing four assists. His form has placed him among the most promising young talents in Ligue 1.
The player has also featured 11 times for Morocco’s senior national team, scoring three goals, and was part of the U-23 squad that secured bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Despite his rising stock, recent developments within Monaco’s squad have raised questions about his long-term role. The high-profile arrival of former Manchester United former star Paul Pogba has shifted the club’s project. L’Équipe reported that Pogba’s move came after extensive talks with key figures in French football, including Kylian Mbappé and Patrice Evra.
While Monaco see Pogba as central to their ambitions and a potential leader ahead of the 2026 World Cup, his arrival has cast doubt over Ben Seghir’s starting position. Reports suggest head coach Adi Hütter may favour other marquee names, including Ansu Fati.
Ben Seghir recently appeared in training wearing a protective facial mask following nasal surgery to address long-term breathing issues. Though medically cleared, speculation continues over his mood and future plans.
French media indicate the player is not showing enthusiasm for renewing his contract and is carefully considering his options.
