Rabat – In the enchanting city of Marrakech, where tradition meets modernity, Imane Rmili has emerged as a culinary luminary, blending the flavors of the past with innovations of the present.

As such, her recent accolade as Restaurateur of the Year at the “Morocco Tourism Awards” on January 16 is not just a personal triumph, but also a celebration of the Red City’s rich gastronomic heritage.

A journey of resilience and commitment

Rmili’s journey is a testament to resilience, entrepreneurship, and an unwavering commitment to her family’s legacy.

Originally trained as a finance professional in France, she took the unexpected turn of returning to her homeland to establish a groundbreaking medical institute in Marrakech focused on wellness and weight management.

This narrative of self-reinvention takes an even more poignant turn in 2020 when Rmili’s father, the esteemed Brahim Rmili, passed away. Unflinchingly, a determined Rmili stepped into her father’s shoes by taking charge of La Rôtisserie de la Paix and Dar Diaffa, two iconic eateries in Marrakech

This transition marked not only a personal evolution, but also a significant shift in the city’s culinary landscape.

Culinary leadership and advocacy

Soon after this bold transition, Rmili saw her role in Marrakech’s thriving culinary elevated when she was elected president of the Regional Association of Restaurateurs in Marrakech-Safi in 2021.

Just as remarkably, she would soon take the helm of the National Federation of Tourist Restaurateurs in January 2022, becoming a vocal advocate for the profession and Marrakech’s culinary reputation.

Even amidst the challenges of a global pandemic and personal loss, Rmili, along with her sisters and mother, stood as a pillar of strength, continuing the Rmili family’s culinary legacy.

“Entrepreneur at heart,” Rmili reflects, “I was eager to both develop my own ventures and work with my father upon my return to Morocco.”

A culinary renaissance during adversity

In the throes of the pandemic, Rmili spearheaded the formation of an association of restaurateurs in Marrakech. The initiative, born out of necessity, evolved into a national federation, to amplify the voice of the city’s culinary artisans in national discussions.

Meanwhile, La Rôtisserie de la Paix, situated in the Gueliz district, witnessed ongoing rejuvenation under Rmili’s leadership.

Plans for the gradual expansion of its 2,500 square meter real estate, including the opening of a temporary exhibition gallery, symbolize not just growth but a commitment to the city’s cultural enrichment.

More than a culinary destination, the restaurant became a hub for charitable efforts, serving as a storage space for donations distributed to earthquake victims.

Simultaneously, Dar Diaffa underwent renovations, and Vita Diet, founded by Rmili in 2006 as the first weight loss center in Marrakech, received a dedicated upgrade. This holistic approach aligns seamlessly with the current emphasis on health and well-being, positioning Rmili not just as a restaurateur but as a curator of holistic care.

Recognition and acknowledgment

In recognition of her inspiring leadership in various fields, including as Consul of Mali in Marrakech, Rmili received the “Leadership au Féminin” trophy in April of last year during the “Visit Marrakech Trophy” ceremony organized by the National Tourism Office of Morocco.

This accolade was a testament to her outstanding contributions in a wide range of sectors, recognizing her diverse roles in maternal and professional projects and her advocacy for the Moroccan restaurant sector.

“Restaurant management wasn’t my initial destiny; it was not a choice but a familial heritage that I embraced over time,” Rmili said in a humble message of gratitude on her LinkedIn three days ago. She was deeply appreciative of her colleagues, recognizing their zeal and passion for the cause of restaurateurs.

A beacon of inspiration

Imane Rmili’s journey serves as a beacon of inspiration, illustrating how a woman with vision and determination can navigate challenges, contribute significantly to her community, and emerge as a leader in the dynamic culinary landscape of Marrakech.

In addition to receiving several prestigious awards, Imane’s pioneering leadership as an entrepreneur and her commitment to honoring the legacy of the Rmili family have positioned her as a driving force behind the evolution of Marrakech’s blossoming culinary scene.

As Rmili continues to balance tradition and innovation in her culinary ventures, she remains a trailblazer whose story resonates far beyond the walls of her renowned eateries.
