Rabat – Defense for Children International (DCIP) has reported a devastating toll on the children of Gaza in 2023, labeling it the “year of genocide” for Palestinian children.
According to the DCIP findings, at least 8,000 Palestinian children were killed by the Israeli Occupation Forces in the Gaza Strip, with an additional 121 in the West Bank.
The report expects the unprecedented number of Palestinian children killed due to Israeli aggression to continue to rise in light of the ongoing Israeli bombardment of residential buildings, infrastructure, hospitals, and schools.
The occupation forces’ restrictions on essential supplies, fuel, severe water shortages, electricity outages, and reports of missing children contribute to this grim projection.
DCIP noted the merciless methods used in the tragic killing of these children, stating that 102 Palestinian children were shot and killed with live fire, 14 fell victim to drone strikes, four perished in missile attacks from Apache helicopters, and one child lost their life in an Israeli warplane strike.
The statement said that the occupation forces killed 84 young lives in the West Bank since the new cycle of violence began on October 7.
DCIP emphasized the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system, attributed to major hospitals facing tight Israeli sieges, forcing patients, wounded individuals, and doctors to evacuate at gunpoint.
The occupation forces have repeatedly bombed hospitals, killing thousands of patients and displaced individuals seeking shelter.
In addition to the staggering loss of life, Palestinian children are confronting an alarming humanitarian crisis.
With the blockade causing severe shortages in essential supplies, including food, clean water, and medication, these young lives are now on the brink of famine and starvation.
The absence of adequate healthcare infrastructure further exacerbates the situation, exposing them to heightened risks of disease and illnesses.
