Rabat – Gaza health officials are urging an international investigation into war crimes committed by Israeli forces during a recent raid on the Kamal Adwan Hospital, including unleashing attack dogs on wounded civilians and using bulldozers.
During a press conference on Sunday, the general director of hospitals in the Gaza Strip Munir Al-Bursh, and the head of the pediatric department Hussam Abu Safiya detailed disturbing accounts of the raid.
According to Abu Safiya, “Israeli soldiers gathered displaced civilians and health workers, who had sought refuge in the hospital, in a large pit, half-naked, and unleashed attack dogs on them.”
He added that an attack dog was unleashed on a 75-year-old wounded person who tragically passed away the next day. Screams were heard as bulldozers ran over tents in the hospital courtyard, raising suspicions that, along with the bodies, some individuals may have been crushed to death.
In addition, Israeli construction machinery demolished crucial hospital infrastructure, including the oxygen unit, water tank, central archive, and pharmacy, Al-Bursh added.
The statement revealed that Israeli forces not only destroyed sections of the hospital but also denied access to aid, targeted health workers, and attacked both the wounded and displaced civilians seeking refuge.
“The hospital gate and surroundings were bombed, shots were fired at buildings within the hospital compound, the second-floor housing the maternity ward was bombed,” Al-Bursh added, specifying that hospital director Ahmed Al-Kahlout was detained and taken to an undisclosed location.
He added that Israeli forces used a bulldozer to dig a large pit in the hospital courtyard and threw approximately 12 bodies of those they had killed into the pit.
“We do not know if any of the wounded were among those thrown into the pit. We demand a relevant international investigation into these heinous crimes,” Al-Bursh stressed.
