Rabat – Younes El Mechrafi won re-election as the Vice-President of the World Federation for Company Sport (WFCS).
The decision was announced following the WFCS’ recent general assembly meeting in Leon, Mexico.
El Mechrafi presently holds the position of General Director at the Moroccan Sports and Games (MDJS) and presides over the Association for the Promotion of Sports in Business in Morocco (APSEM).
The re-election will see El Mechrafi fill the position at WFCS for another four-year term. He represents the African continent alongside eleven other members hailing from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
The WFCS’ mission statement is to foster “cultural and human exchanges through sports, promoting regular physical activity in corporate settings, and advocating mass sports for overall health benefits.”
The organization organizes an array of activities, including international sporting events, conferences, and workshops, and serves as a platform for corporate sports federations on the international stage.
Speaking on the sidelines of the news announcement, El Mechrafi expressed his pride at being re-elected: “This re-election is an honor for Morocco and validates years of unwavering commitment to the cause of sports.”
He further expressed his dedication to advancing the organization’s mission, not just on the national level but also across the African continent.
With over 30 years of experience, El Mechrafi has filled a wide range of executive positions in a number of esteemed organizations across various fields.
He started his career as a researcher and university professor in 1988 at the French University of Valenciennes. Four years later, he became the General Director of SOMAV, a company specializing in the agro-industry.
In 1994, he founded and presided over CONCIS, a company specializing in the Design and Integration of Services.
El Mechrafi started his first position with a Moroccan state institution in 2003, where he worked as a Special Advisor to the Minister of Justice. Three years later, he became the Chief Executive Officer of ONA Group Archos Conseil, a company that specializes in information systems consulting, business intelligence, and offshoring. ONA GroupArchos Conseil is a subsidiary of ONA Group, Morocco’s largest private group.
Between 2013 and 2019, he was a board member of the Institut Marocain d’Intelligence Strategique, a think tank focusing on strategic studies including policy development.
In 2005, El Mechrafi entered the lottery business as a founding board member of the Switzerland-based Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS), a global non-profit association that supports licensed state lotteries in its mission to ensure integrity and fight crime in sport.
In 2019, he returned to Morocco to become president of the Association for the Promotion of Sports in Business in Morocco (APSEM). In the same year, he was elected for the first time as vice president of WFCS.
In 2013, he was also appointed as vice president of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sports Champions.
His successful career culminated in his appointment as General Director of Morocco’s state-owned lottery company MDJS in 2009, a role he has been filling for the past nine years.
