Rabat – Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch is leading the country’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) taking place in New York.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad Nasser Bourita is accompanying Akhannouch to this session.
This year’s session is taking place under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
The launch of the 80th UNGA’s high-level segment will take place on Tuesday, with participation from heads of state and government, as well as several other senior officials.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the UN’s creation, which will be commemorated during a high-level meeting scheduled for today.
The UNGA will focus on a multitude of current issues, particularly concerning peace, sustainable development, and the climate crisis.
On the sidelines of this major UN gathering, two summits are planned on climate and the sustainable, inclusive, and resilient global economy, at the initiative of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The UNGA is set to examine the Israel-Palestine two-state solution in the Middle East, the Sustainable Development Goals, prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, promotion of mental health and well-being, as well as the elimination of nuclear weapons.
