Rabat – The Spanish National Police, working in close collaboration with Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), carried out two major operations in Málaga and Algecira. The operations led to the seizure of more than 11 tons of hashish and the arrest of ten suspects involved in international drug trafficking.
The investigation began in July following strategic intelligence exchanges between Spanish and Moroccan authorities.
On September 10, police intercepted a refrigerated truck in Málaga, which had arrived the previous day through the port of Algeciras.
The truck, carrying pallets of melons, concealed 9.3 tons of hashish. Two “escort” vehicles used to monitor the truck and detect police presence were also stopped. Six suspects were detained and charged with organized crime and drug trafficking.
A separate operation in August targeted a van loaded with furniture departing from Tangier toward Algeciras.
Upon arrival in Málaga on September 5, officers uncovered 1.8 tons of hashish hidden in double compartments and plastic-wrapped packages.
Authorities also seized more than €14,000, four vehicles, and eight mobile phones. Four individuals were arrested.
The two operations were conducted under the supervision of Spain’s anti-drug prosecutor’s office, highlighting the effectiveness of transnational cooperation.
The DGSN’s role in identifying the networks and anticipating their routes proved instrumental in the successful seizures.
These joint efforts show the strategic importance of Morocco-Spain collaboration in dismantling criminal organizations exploiting maritime routes and ports for large-scale narcotics trafficking.
