Rabat – The Gaza Strip faces renewed humanitarian disaster as Israeli forces resume airstrikes, claiming the lives of more than 180 people and leaving hundreds wounded just hours after a week-long truce expired, Palestinian officials reported.

As dawn broke on Friday, the eastern areas of Khan Younis in southern Gaza witnessed a relentless bombardment, with plumes of smoke piercing the sky,  Reuters reported. With their belongings piled in carts, desperate residents streamed westward in search of shelter.

Gaza health officials revealed grim statistics, citing Israeli airstrikes that have resulted in 184 fatalities, at least 589 injuries, and more than 20 houses damaged.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has responded by issuing warnings, dropping leaflets over Gaza City and southern regions, urging civilians to evacuate to avoid the escalating of Israeli bloody war against Palestinians.

Despite the occupying forces’s calls for residents of specific neighborhoods in northern Gaza to seek refuge in designated shelters and schools, rights groups, including Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres), have emphasized the lack of safe havens in the enclave.

The 7-day truce that began on November 24 saw the release of around 100 Israeli hostages in exchange for 240 Palestinians held in Israel, and the acceleration of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

As the conflict escalates, civilians are forced into a perilous situation, navigating a landscape of destruction while grappling with the uncertainty of where safety can be found.

Under the Israeli blockade, half the homes on the Gaza Strip have been damaged or destroyed, and 1.7 million people have been displaced by Israel’s genocidal war, according to the UN.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recorded 111,000 cases of acute respiratory infection and 36,000 cases of diarrhea in children under five among displaced persons in Gaza.

And since October 7, more than 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza including more than 6,000 children
