Rabat – Morocco’s Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas has revealed several details on the country’s plans for providing direct social aid, including sign up dates and beneficiary details.

Baitas announced that a digital platform has been finished that would allow citizens to sign up to receive the aid if they qualify.

Registrations will be open starting on December 2, with citizens invited to register as soon as possible so that they can receive their aid before the end of the year.

Law No. 58.23 on direct social aid was approved by the Government Council on Thursday and outlines various details in the application and distribution of the aid.

The law grants the role of head of the family to the family’s husband, custodian, sponsor, or legal representative, in that order.

Baitas added that the law sets the amounts for the benefits related to child risk protection and disabilities, which will differ depending on the monthly subsidies granted to each individual family.

According to the spokesman, the bill specifies that families eligible for the social aid would receive no less than MAD 500 per month, which would be deposited in the bank account of the head of the family. The subsidy amounts are set to grow in 2024 and 2025 before being stabilized in 2026.

The Government Council also approved a draft decree setting the threshold for families to be able to benefit from the direct social aid, so that the new aid program would cover 60% of the population not currently covered by family allowances.

The social assistance program comes in application of instructions from King Mohammed VI, who in October announced a new comprehensive direct aid program during an address to the Moroccan parliament.

“According to our Constitution, the family is the pillar of society. Therefore, I have always sought to make sure the conditions conducive to family cohesion are in place,” the King said.
