Rabat – Across the Gaza Strip, more than 234,000 housing units have been damaged and more than 46,000 homes have been completely destroyed, amounting to over 60% of the total housing units, according to a report from the UN.

In Gaza City and North Gaza, Israel’s relentless air raids over the past few weekends damaged more than 50% of all buildings, in addition to causing “widespread damage to roads and essential infrastructure such as power systems and distribution networks, and water storage tanks, pipes, supply networks, and drainage channels.”

Israel’s attacks on civilian infrastructure have equally destroyed Gaza’s last functioning mill and 11 bakeries.

In the report, the UN-led aid consortium stressed that “the destruction of shelters, civilian homes, and civilian infrastructure must not extend further south in Gaza.”

Israel has previously ordered civilians to move south of the Gaza Strip, displacing 70% of Gaza’s population of 1.7 million people, and putting extreme pressure on shelters in the south.

The remaining urban areas in southern Gaza “must be protected” from further damage to allow for humanitarian aid, the consortium maintains.

Meanwhile, Qatar announced on Monday reaching a deal with Israel and Hamas to extend the four-day truce by two additional days, fueling hopes of a permanent ceasefire.

Negotiations are still ongoing with representatives from the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Israel to extend the ceasefire.

While Israel is facing international pressure to halt its assault in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, the country’s defense cabinet said that the attack on Gaza will resume “in full force.”
