Rabat – The youth-led GenZ212 movement has reacted to the decisions announced during Sunday’s Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by King Mohammed VI, which included a sizeable increase in the budgets allocated to education and health.
In an official statement, the movement said that “positive interaction with the aspirations of the street constitutes the first step toward rebuilding a trust long lost.”
GenZ212 expressed its gratitude to the Moroccan people, particularly the young members of GenZ, and to all those who mobilized peacefully over recent weeks.
“It is thanks to your peaceful, responsible, and conscious pressure that the education and health budgets have been revised upward,” the statement read.
While welcoming this significant step, the movement urged vigilance to ensure that these measures are effectively implemented and genuinely address the deep structural gaps affecting the two sectors.
For real reform to take shape, GenZ212 stressed that such progress must be “accompanied by firm measures against corruption and conflicts of interest.”
The statement also added that no genuine renewal can take place “as long as the sons and daughters of this generation, who have peacefully expressed their opinions, remain behind bars.”
Calling for the release of all detained protesters, the movement said this demand is not only legitimate but “a true test of the state’s seriousness and a condition for restoring trust and building a common future.”
The GenZ212 movement emerged as nationwide protests led by Moroccan youth demanding better public services, transparency, and accountability.
Over the past month, thousands of young people across major cities have taken to the streets calling for reforms in education, healthcare, and governance, denouncing corruption and inequality.
