Rabat – As of the end of September this year, the National Defense Department reported that Morocco saved a total of 40,000 immigrants.

According to a statement made by the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of the National Defense Department, “the Royal Navy and Royal Gendermerie units conducted … a series of operations within the framework of combating irregular migration, which made it possible to save 40,000 immigration candidates from drowning and death,” pointing to “the arrest of more than 20,000 candidates.”

Alongside the rescues of immigrants, the Royal Gendarmerie works to dismantle criminal networks by harnessing “logistical means; including aircraft that completed 509 maritime surveillance missions, during which they carried out 650 flight hours, in addition to the use of drones.”

The campaigns have proved successful given the 44 operations which seized 19 tons of narcotics being transported into Morocco by the Royal Gendermerie as of the end of September.

Lodi spoke about the Royal Navy’s focus on safeguarding sovereignty and controlling Morocco’s land, sea, and air borders – which includes 3,300 kilometers of land borders and 3,500 kilometers of coastline.

Morocco continues on its path to harness its advanced military equipment and capabilities – including radars and drones – and bolster its presence in the global military theater to combat human and drug smuggling into the country.
