Rabat – The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and European airline EasyJet have signed a five-year agreement aimed at significantly boosting Morocco’s international connectivity, leveraging the reach of one of Europe’s most influential carriers.

Under the alliance, initiated and led by the ONMT, EasyJet will establish its first operational base outside Europe at Marrakech Menara Airport.

The plan includes the allocation of three Airbus aircraft, a 17% increase in flights to Morocco starting in 2026, and an ambitious target of 12 million passengers by 2030, according to an ONMT statement.

The agreement is intended to accelerate Morocco’s growth as a major global tourist destination.

The Marrakech base marks a historic move for EasyJet, representing its first long-term operational investment outside Europe in several years.

The deployment of three aircraft reflects a total investment exceeding €150 million and shows the airline’s confidence in Morocco’s potential, the ONMT noted.

The partnership will immediately boost capacity, complemented by an expanded offer through EasyJet Holidays.

This increase is expected to distribute tourist flows more evenly across the country, aligning with the ONMT’s strategy of diversification and national expansion.

The Marrakech base is projected to create nearly 100 direct jobs and thousands of indirect positions across aviation, tourism, and service sectors.

Each aircraft stationed at the airport is estimated to generate around €30 million in gross added value for the local economy.

With this collaboration, the ONMT’s projection is to reinforce its central role in expanding air connectivity while positioning Morocco as an essential travel destination by 2030.

The office continues its strategic push to develop a robust, competitive, and future-oriented aviation network.

The timing of this partnership is particularly strategic as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Bolstering international air connectivity ensures that Morocco can accommodate the anticipated surge of international visitors, while also promoting wider tourist flows across the country.
