Olympique de Marseille face Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League at the Vélodrome. This is a big one for the home side who need to win to stay in the qualification hunt. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle want to build on their good European form and get to the knockout stages with some confidence.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men are coming off a 5–1 win over Nice on Friday but their Champions League form has been patchy. Newcastle are off a big 2–1 win over Manchester City at the weekend and are enjoying their best European run for years.

OM team news

Roberto De Zerbi’s squad faces a must-win match with mixed recent form in the Champions League, despite a strong domestic performance. They enter the match with several key absences and changes since the start of the season.

  • Injuries: Key defensive players Nayef Aguerd (groin), Facundo Medina, Amir Murillo (thigh), and Amine Gouiri (shoulder) are all ruled out.

Tactically: De Zerbi should keep his aggressive, vertical style, building from the back, pressing high, and relying on fast transitions. OM will use width and pace to unsettle Newcastle’s structure, as seen in their recent 5–1 win over Nice.

Predicted lineup (4–3–3): Rulli, Weah, Pavard, Egan-Riley, Emerson, Garcia, Greenwood, O’Riley, Højbjerg, Paixão, Aubameyang.

Newcastle team news

Newcastle travel to France full of confidence after beating Manchester City and winning their last three Champions League games.

  • Injuries : Kieran Trippier (hamstring), William Osula (ankle), and Yoane Wissa (knee) are out.

Tactically: Eddie Howe will probably stick to his 4–3–3. The midfield should maintain its shape but there could be small positional changes to manage players’ fitness and compensate for missing players.

Predicted lineup (4–3–3): Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn, Guimarães, Tonali, Joelinton, Elanga, Barnes, Woltemade.

Safe calls

  • Newcastle to Win
  • Over 1.5 Goals: Both sides have strong attacking profiles.
  • Both Teams to Score: Yes
  • Score prediction: OM 1–2 Newcastle
