Yassir Zabiri is still feeling the thrill of becoming a U20 World Champion with Morocco a few weeks ago and he’s just taken that form to the club level, scoring his first Primeira Liga goal this season and earning himself Man of the Match honours as FC Famalicão drew 2–2 away to Moreirense on Saturday.

The 20-year-old forward, who made the move to Portugal in August 2024, turned in the kind of performance that’s been making him one of the most talked about young attacking talents in the league.

One complete performance in a very level match

Famalicão got off to the perfect start with Zabiri scoring in the 21st minute. He timed his run to perfection and headed home a pinpoint accurate cross from Gil Dias. That header was a real statement of intent from Zabiri, and set the tone for the rest of the match.

More than the goal itself, Zabiri’s movement in behind and pressing intensity were a constant thorn in Moreirense’s side. He was always looking to get in behind, always looking to create space for his midfielders and was central to Famalicão’s attacking play.

Yassine Zabiri was eventually subbed in the closing stages — having been the real difference-maker in the game for the 80 minutes he’d spent on the pitch.

Zabiri’s goal is a big step forward for a player who’s had a huge year already. He was a key figure in Morocco’s historic U20 World Cup win —  a tournament he bravely insisted in participating in even after threats from Famalicão coach that he would lose his place on the team— finishing that tournament as one of the standout players of the entire competition.

Since making the move to senior European football, his transition has been gradual but promising.
