Mohammedia – Just days ahead of the opening of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco’s airports have recorded an unprecedented surge in arrivals, highlighting the country’s growing role as a regional hub and a key destination for major international events.
Between December 8 and 18, a total of 868,287 passengers were welcomed across the six airports hosting the tournament, representing a 10.7% increase compared with the same period in 2024, according to figures released by the National Airports Office.
Traffic peaked on December 18, which marked an all-time record in terms of passenger volumes and operational intensity.
The day stood out as a clear demonstration of Morocco’s ability to manage a massive influx of travelers while maintaining high standards of safety, security, and service quality.
Over the 10 days, airports handled 7,327 aircraft movements, up 13% year-on-year, reflecting sustained activity and strong demand linked to the upcoming continental competition.
Casablanca Mohammed V Airport confirmed its position as the country’s main gateway, handling 292,221 passengers, or 33.7% of total traffic recorded at the host airports.
This central role underlines the strategic importance of the Casablanca hub in supporting the logistics of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Other host cities, including Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, Rabat, and Fez, also reported notable growth in traffic, driven by the arrival of supporters, official delegations, and international travelers.
The National Airports Office stated that this performance is primarily the result of a strong focus on ensuring smooth passenger flow. All airport teams were fully mobilized, with close coordination between public authorities and airport stakeholders.
Support was provided by the Ministry of the Interior, the General Directorate of National Security, the Royal Gendarmerie, the General Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes, and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.
Their combined efforts aimed to streamline arrival procedures, strengthen controls, and guarantee efficient passenger processing from landing to exit.
Beyond the numbers, the recent surge in arrivals serves as a large-scale operational test ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The record traffic recorded in mid-December reinforces Morocco’s image as a country capable of hosting, organizing, and securing major sporting events.
It also highlights the growing role of airport infrastructure in the country’s international positioning, as Morocco prepares to welcome Africa and the world for one of the continent’s most anticipated football tournaments.
