Rabat – Today is the day! Africa’s largest tournament, the AFCON, is here. It will open with a thrilling game between Morocco and Comoros in Rabat.
The game will kick off at 8 p.m. Moroccan time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
People seeking to watch the game on their small or large screens can do so via different channels. Fans in the US can watch the match through beIN Sports, Fanatiz USA, fubo, and beIN Sports Connect.
Fans in the UK can watch the game on Channel 4 and E4.
Fans in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa can watch the game through SuperSport, SABC 2, SA FM, as well as MaXimo 360.
Many are expecting Morocco to be a favorite to win the opener. However, many others are emphasizing how AFCON is known for its unpredictability.
Morocco, the host country, has been an AFCON champion once in 1976. It was also a runner-up in 2004.
“As hosts, they qualified automatically but still dominated qualifying—winning all six matches, scoring 26 goals and conceding just two, with Brahim Díaz finishing as top scorer,” beIN Sports said.
Head coach Walid Regragui knows this is a big responsibility on the national team, especially as the Atlas Lions are playing at home.
“Every match is important because we represent Morocco. Expectations are high, but the players must stay calm, confident, and respectful of the opponent,” Regragui said.
Morocco, especially Rabat, is buzzing as the countdown continues.
“Across Rabat, key hotspots are adorned in AFCON colours, reinforcing the tournament’s presence and adding to the sense of occasion,” the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said, citing fan zones that were placed across the country.
“With the spotlight firmly on Morocco and Comoros on Sunday night, the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 is set to begin in a city already alive with football fever that is expected to swiftly move across Morocco,” CAF added.
