Rabat – After announcing his resignation and confirming he will run again in the upcoming board elections, Joan Laporta reflected on his five years as president and expressed pride in the progress Barcelona has made.

“We leave with pride, because Barcelona is better than it was five years ago,” Laporta said in a press briefing. “We had to make difficult decisions, and now, looking back, I can say we are proud of those choices. Some were very painful, but they were always made to protect the club or because we believed they were the best for Barcelona.”

Laporta pointed out that one of the most important projects under his leadership is the construction of the new Spotify Camp Nou.

“We are proud of the decision to move forward with building the new stadium. It was the right choice, even though it was not easy at the time. Barcelona was going through a difficult situation, but the strength of the club and its badge made this possible. Today, it is a reality, and it has given us credibility with investors, members, and the football world.”

He described the stadium project as the most significant legacy in the club’s history, noting that it helped restore trust and stability.

“This project is the most important heritage in Barcelona’s history. It gave us credibility and stability. We are grateful to the members, because thanks to them the club remained stable during these five years.”

Laporta closed his remarks by stressing that his leadership was essential in saving the club during a critical period.

“It was essential to save the club, and we leave with the feeling that we achieved that. I include here all the workers of the club, our staff, everyone who contributed.”
