Several national teams continued their preparations for upcoming competitions with a series of international friendlies, as Argentina, Senegal and Zimbabwe all recorded notable victories.

Argentina edged past Mauritania 2–1 in a festive atmosphere at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires. Goals from Enzo Fernández and Nicolás Paz secured the win for La Albiceleste, who controlled large spells of the match despite a spirited performance from the visitors. Jordan Lefort (90’+4) reduced the deficit for Mauritania in the final moments of the match following a scramble in the box.

Lionel Messi started on the bench before coming on to a rousing reception, with fans eager to see the captain potentially participate in a sixth World Cup.

In Botswana, Zimbabwe played well to defeat Botswana 3–0 in the semifinal of the Mukuru Four Nations tournament in Francistown. Mongameli Tshuma opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Macaulay Bonne turned the ball into the net ten minutes later.

Bill Antonio added a third just before halftime to put the result beyond doubt. Botswana had a chance to respond in the second half but failed to convert a penalty. The Warriors will now face Zambia in Tuesday’s final.

Senegal also impressed with a 2–0 victory over Peru. Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the first half after a well-timed run in behind, and Ismaïla Sarr sealed the win. Senegal’s midfield dominance proved decisive against a Peruvian side still in transition.

The March 2026 FIFA window continues with a few fixtures still to come for these nations. Following the cancellation of the Finalissima against Spain, Argentina have scheduled additional home friendlies against African opposition. Argentina will face Zambia on March 31 in Buenos Aires at 20:15 local time, continuing their late preparation schedule.

Senegal will return to action the same day against Gambia at 19:00 local time in Diamniadio, in front of their home supporters.
