Rabat – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has declared a three-day mourning period for the victims of Morocco’s earthquake and the storm in Libya, the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency Ahmad Fahmy announced today.

El-Sisi also announced the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid and relief teams to assist the victims of the tragedies in both Morocco and Libya, which has lost over 3,000 lives due to the powerful Storm Daniel.

The news broke early in the morning as el-Sisi convened with several high-ranking military officials to discuss the response to the natural disasters unfolding in Morocco and Libya.

The Egyptian President expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Moroccan and Libyan people, extending his sympathies to the families affected by the twin disasters.

He ordered the swift mobilization of the Egyptian Armed Forces to provide urgent support and humanitarian aid to the affected regions.

In addition, Egypt stressed its readiness to contribute to rescue and relief efforts in both Morocco and Libya by delivering assistance via air and sea routes.

El-Sisi has instructed the Egyptian Armed Forces to provide comprehensive support, including rescue teams, relief equipment, and shelter facilities for those displaced by the disasters.

Fahmy underlined that Egypt is determined to work closely with Libyan and Moroccan authorities, as well as relevant institutions, to ensure the efficient coordination of relief efforts.

The tragic earthquake that hit Morocco’s Al Haouz region on Friday night claimed the lives of more than 2,800 people. The death toll is expected to further rise as rescue efforts continue.

Meanwhile, a powerful storm, named Storm Daniel, struck the eastern Libyan city of Derna, causing massive destruction and killing at least 3,000 people in the past three days.
