Rabat – As volunteers and humanitarian groups from various Moroccan regions continue their mission to support earthquake-stricken areas, concerns have arisen among residents of the Ouarzazate region who feel they are not receiving an equitable share of aid assistance.

While efforts are being concentrated on the Al Haouz region, the epicenter of the magnitude 7 earthquake, Ouarzazate locals are voicing their dissatisfaction with the current distribution of aid resources.

In the aftermath of the tragic earthquake, affected villages across Morocco have been receiving vital humanitarian assistance, including food supplies, blankets, tents, and other essential items. These efforts have been initiated on the orders of King Mohammed VI.

However, as solidarity convoys and humanitarian organizations rally to assist, concerns are being raised about the unequal allocation of resources as several villages in Ouarzazate continue to grapple with the aftermath of the earthquake.

Using the hashtag #Ouarzazate_is_a_Moroccan_City in Arabic, locals took to social media to urge Moroccan civil society and international organizations to expand their outreach beyond Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Marrakech, and conduct field visits to provide much-needed assistance to the affected population in Ouarzazate

They acknowledged the efforts of local authorities in Ouarzazate, working under the supervision of the regional governor, to alleviate the shock experienced by residents. But they emphasized the urgency of reaching those in need and providing them with essential aid items.

Residents in the affected areas of Ouarzazate, including Tidli, Khzama, Telouet, Ighrem, Nokdal, and Imghrane, among others, have expressed their frustration with what they perceive as neglect and a lack of media attention concerning their situation.
