Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Health Khalid Ait Taleb said on Sunday that the country has deployed all assets to ensure a speedy intervention during rescue operations.
The minister made his remarks during a field visit on Sunday, covering several healthcare centers and institutions in the Marrakech-Safi region.
During the field visit, the minister said that each region has a substantial fleet of ambulances estimated at 100 vehicles, including fully equipped medical vehicles.
The North African country also recently deployed 30 ambulances, with the aim of ensuring speedy intervention and rescue operations.
“This visit is in implementation of the royal instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to provide medical, psychological, and social support to the victims of this tragic event, and to assess the services provided to them,” he said.
King Mohammed VI chaired a working session on Saturday dedicated to the assessment of all measures taken to tackle the crisis witnessed due to the earthquake that struck several Moroccan cities on Friday night.
During the meeting, the King called on the government to deploy all necessary equipment and rescue teams to help people affected by the earthquake.
The sovereign also called for the set up of medical field hospitals as well as humanitarian aid, including drinking water and food to be distributed to the victims.
The monarch also called on authorities to speed up the rehabilitation of the collapsed victims.
Ait Taleb emphasized the importance of the measures taken including medical assistance, pointing out that Morocco “appointed a specialized medical organizer for resuscitation, and that based on these measures, we began to transfer the wounded, according to the level of severity and the injuries they sustained.”
Ait Taleb also renewed thanks to all people who showed solidarity and support, calling on Moroccan citizens to maintain this momentum.
The earthquake has caused the death of 2,122 people as of Sunday, while thousands others were injured.
