Rabat – In celebration of this year’s Youth Day, King Mohammed VI has issued a royal decree granting pardons to 760 individuals, including detainees and those in a state of release.
The Ministry of Justice issued a statement detailing the beneficiaries of the royal pardon.
Of the pardoned individuals, 601 have been detained, with 50 of them receiving full pardons on their prison sentences allowing them to rejoin society.
For 551 detainees, their sentences have been reduced, offering them an opportunity for an earlier release.
The remaining 159 beneficiaries were in a state of release at the time of the announcement.
Imprisonment sentences for 37 individuals have been entirely pardoned, while eight individuals had their prison sentences pardoned but will still have to pay their fines.
A total of 107 individuals received a full pardon from fines that were imposed on them.
Six individuals were relieved of both imprisonment and fines, while one was granted a pardon from the remainder of their prison sentence and associated fine.
Royal pardons are a traditional part of Morocco’s national and religious holiday celebrations.
On Saturday, the King pardoned 653 people on the occasion of the Revolution of the King and the People.
