Rabat – Spain has won its first Women’s World Cup after defeating England 1-0 in the final game, which took place on Sunday at Stadium Australia in Sydney.

Spain’s Olga Carmona awarded her country the opportunity to clinch their first Women’s World Cup title in their history, scoring a goal in the 29th minute.

Spain maintained over 50 % of ball possession, with more than 400 passes, and 80% pass accuracy.

In terms of attempts, the Spaniards made 11 shots, including five on target, compared to England’s three shots on target from seven total attempts.

Spain was positioned as the fans’ favorite to win the trophy following eye-catching performances throughout the competition.

In the group stage, Spain defeated Costa Rica 3-0, and Zambia 5-0, but lost to Japan 4-0, qualifying to the knockouts in second place.

The Spanish team made up for the defeat by a 5-1 win against Switzerland during the round of 16. On August 11, they secured a ticket to the semi-finals after beating the Netherlands 2-1.

They also scored two goals against Sweden in the semifinals, to qualify for the final game.
