Rabat – Moroccan supermarket chain Marjane has reassured customers that its teams are mobilized to ensure the quality of all products available in its stores.
The statement came following a circular from Morocco’s Food Safety Office (ONSSA), which has recently announced the presence of toxic substances in watermelon products sold at Marjane Founty in the city of Agadir.
The circular ordered the Marjane store to withdraw all batches of watermelon products, stressing that analysis found the presence of toxic and harmful substances in one of the samples.
The office also stressed that it will carry out further analysis on other samples.
In a statement shared with Morocco World News on Thursday, Marjane stressed that analyses were carried out on a batch of watermelons, with the first sample revealing that the product is unfit for consumption.
“From then on, it was immediately withdrawn from all stores and logistics warehouses,” the chain stressed, noting that the second sample analyzed by both the Marjane Group teams and relevant authorities, was found to comply with the quality standards in place.

“The group observes that the procedures ensuring the health compliance of the products have fulfilled their control function,” the statement added.
Marjane also argued that the launch of its “Filiere M” brand three years ago has helped it in strengthening quality assurance and traceability.
“By launching the ‘FILIERE M’ brand more than 3 years ago, the group is able to guarantee, with regard to this brand, and thanks to the work of its agricultural engineers, the origin, traceability and quality of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, and local products, supervising the cultivation of the product from seed to harvest,” the statement added.
Marjane concluded its press release by reassuring citizens of its team’s dedication to daily quality checks covering all products in its stores.
