Tantan – The Directorate General of Meteorology has warned of another strong heat wave across Morocco starting Saturday and expected to last until Tuesday, with temperatures reaching between 37°C and 44°C in many parts of the country.

The weather authority issued an orange-level alert due to the intensity and spread of the hot weather.

Very high temperatures, between 41°C and 44°C, are expected in southern and southeastern provinces, including Laayoune, Dakhla, Smara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Tarfaya, Tan-Tan, Taroudant, and Tata.

Temperatures will range between 37°C and 41°C in many inland and central areas. These include Marrakech, Fez, Meknes, Kenitra, Khouribga, Settat, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, El Kelaa des Sraghna, and other surrounding provinces. Coastal cities such as Casablanca, Mohammedia, El Jadida, Safi, and Essaouira will also experience hot weather, with temperatures ranging from 34°C to 37°C.

The forecast also indicates that unstable weather conditions will develop from Saturday, with local thunderstorms expected over the Atlas Mountains, the Rif, the Saiss region, and parts of the eastern high plateaus.

Some of these storms may extend toward western areas and phosphate plateaus. Morning and nighttime fog is also likely along northern and central coastal areas.

Wind conditions are expected to strengthen in several regions, especially in northern areas such as Tangier and the southern provinces, which may lead to local dust lifting.

Temperatures are expected to rise again from Monday before a gradual drop begins on Wednesday across most regions of Morocco.

Despite the heat, meteorologists say that cooler and more stable conditions should return midweek, bringing relief after several days of intense temperatures affecting large parts of the country.
