Rabat – Palestine’s ambassador to Morocco Jamal Chaoubaki commented on King Mohammed VI’s Throne Day speech– stressing the importance of Rabat’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

Chaoubaki said that Palestinians are satisfied with Morocco’s support for their cause and their legitimate rights to establish the State of Palestine.

“His Majesty the King has been expressing, on occasions, the Kingdom’s firm and continuous support for the Palestinian cause,” Chaoubaki said.

On Saturday, King Mohammed VI reiterated Morocco’s unchanged position with regards to the Palestinian cause, stressing that this support stems from Morocco’s seriousness towards its commitments.

During his speech, the King said that Morocco reaffirms its “unwavering position regarding the just cause of  Palestine and the legitimate right of our Palestinian brothers and sisters to set up their independent State, with East Jerusalem as its capital and to make sure all peoples in the region enjoy security and stability.”

The statement came as a reassurance to the Palestinian Authority amid advancing bilateral cooperation between Rabat and Tel Aviv.

The advanced cooperation between the two countries was reflected by Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.

Morocco expressed satisfaction with the move, but stressed that its position on the Palestinian cause will remain the same –  with Rabat’s support for the legitimate right of Palestinians to enjoy an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
