Rabat – Morocco exported 73,000 tonnes of mandarins to Canada in the 2022-2023 agriculture season from September to April.

According to data from the agriculture-focused website EastFruit, the number accounts for half of Canada’s total mandarin imports from all destinations.

“Morocco managed to increase its exports to Canada despite a decline in total exports of mandarins” in the current season, the website added.

Recalling the importance of Morocco as one of the top five largest exporters of mandarins, EastFruit said that the country’s exports of the same products amounted to 625,000 tonnes during the 2021-2022 season.

Mandarins enabled Moroccan exporters to earn a $290 million in export value during the current season, the same data added.

Morocco and the US remained the major exporters of Canada in that season, with South Africa and Peru non presence in the market during the period. Both Spain and China also reduced their exports, with US exports accounting for 40% while Morocco’s exports to Canada accounted for over 45%, the data concluded.

During the 2021-2022 agricultural season,Morocco’s virtus exports reached a record volume of 766,500 tonnes with an overall increase of 40% compared to the year before.

The North African country also exported 166 metric tonnes of tangerines and mandarins to the EU during the 2021-2022 agriculture season.
According to data from the Moroccan Agriculture Ministry, Canada received 67.6 metric tonnes of tangerines and mandarins from Morocco in the 2021-2022 season, while Russia welcomed 173.081 metric tonnes in shipments of the same products from Morocco in the same period.
